For the Love of Elvis Marla J Selvidge 9780989580823 Books Reviews
I originally bought the audiobook for my mom whom is a die-hard Elvis fan. She raved about it so much, I had to listen to it myself. Marla Selvidge does an absolutely wonderful job of weaving an uplifting story about Elvis and how much his life and music touched so many in America. The author takes a new twist and ties in her own life experiences around the life of Elvis in a way many of us can truly relate to. The audiobook is further enhanced with a delightful narration by Caitlin Moreland - a narrator whose work I’ll be sure to follow in the future. Truly heart-warming. Two-thumbs up.
I really enjoyed this quick 158 page read. The author tries to give explanations of many of the things Elvis did in his life and how he
handled everything from people to music. While it does not give new information, it gives the author's take on things.
Elvis fans will love the book because it handles all topics kindly and helps to promote Elvis' legacy.
Can you imagine a young teenage Elvis being told in church that he couldn't sing? Can you imagine a young Elvis being thrown up against the wall by his dad? Physical Abuse? What about Mental Abuse and sexual abuse as a child? In America, we close our eyes on such matter. Can you imagine a mother having a sexual relationship with her son? I read this book -- I was in tears by the time I finished the first two chapters. I could NOT put this book down. I don't endorse books or impersonators but this book was a MUST READ, especially if you're a TRUE Elvis fan. Sadly, In America, A man is put down if he is sexually/physically/mentally abused. Even if you're not an Elvis but you have been a victim, you will enjoy this book. Have you ever felt that nobody cares and you can not express your feelings? I too was a victim!

P.S. I have add so I don't mislead anyone that this book does mot say that Elvis' mom sexually abused him. I don't mean to imply that. It reminds me of when the Post Office implied that a 168 lb Elvis (Aloha From Hawaii} was "Old and Fat". Remember Stamp B.
I love Elvis and this book, this author, has helped me with subjects in my own life.
All my life, I was a closet Elvis fan. In the 70's, Elvis just wasn't cool. When people found out I was an Elvis fan, I was bullied and beat up. I learn to suppress my feelings until 1992 when I was honored by the Governor of Oklahoma and President of U.S.
What am I trying to say? Be yourself. An Image is one thing, A human being is another. The majority is not always right. As the King sang, "Before you criticize and accuse, Walk a mile in my shoes."
Again, I said, Even if you're not an Elvis fan and you have been a victim, you should read this book.
For the Love of Elvis is a slimline book, which is easy to read and with its largish print and double line spacing (publishers take note great for older readers with diminishing eyesight!) won’t take you long to finish. That there is not too much information to take in encourages greater understanding and appreciation.
Undoubtedly For the Love of Elvis will appeal to those fans (and there are a lot of them!) tired of reading the same tired sensationalist tabloid record of Elvis’ life. Professor Selvidge’s release is a positive, unadulterated account of a special life which touched, and continues to touch, millions of people around the world. It allows the reader to reflect on the “human” aspect of Elvis and what it was about him that facilitates his impact on their life. Reviewed by Nigel Patterson ([...]))
I liked the way it was written , being personal . The pictures were great, also. It showed how very giving Elvis was , and so much love for his fans and family.
I liked the book but would not recommend purchasing the kindle edition. Not being able to see the photo's was a bummer.
AWESOME. Bought this book for my grandma. She loved it. When she was through, my grandpa read it and he loved it. The author even signed it for me! Buy this if you like Elvis.
